Blackshell Films Presents: Film in China Handbook

Dear friends and colleagues,

Starting from today, Blackshell Films (www.blackshellfilms.com) will produce a series of articles dedicated to explain a single but important question: “What should I know before planing to film in China”? As a bilingual producer and the co-founder of Blackshell Films, who are specialized in producing documentaries and commercial films in China, and have collaborated with various clients from all over the world, I am confident to give you my insight, and hopefully, it will help you in someways.

The handbook consists of several chapters including some of the most important things that you ever need to know. For example, visas, equipments, permits, crews, research, location scout, casting, green screen studio, working hour, transportation, accommodation, creative ways of collaborations during pandemic, remote directing, and of course, the update of Covid and filming situation in China, and more. As I am still preparing for the handbook content, please, if you have any questions or any specific side you want to know, let me know. I will update accordingly to my viewer’s suggestions.

A little bit of new border policy to share with some of you who might wanna film in China soon or in the near future. Currently, China has not open its border to foreigners yet, only those who hold a work visa or diplomatic visa can come. No tourist visa and journalist visa available at this point. Also, if anyone wants to come to China from aboard, she/he will need to go through a 14-day quarantine in a designated hotel before you can move freely.
